Exodus 12
INTRODUCTION
The Covid-19 pandemic is ravaging the whole world. This is coming now at the time of Easter and Easter time has a root in the story of the Jewish PASSOVER. It is not accidental that the arrest, trial, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ come at the time of the Passover. The two histories are the most significant histories in the history of the Jews and the church.
Egypt was ravaged by ten plagues that brought Pharaoh and his people to their knees. However, throughout this period God was with his people. It is, however, important to note two basic instructions the Israelites lived by during this period:
- A lockdown and stay at home order
The Israelites movement was first limited to Goshen and finally, each family was instructed to stay at home alone
Exod.12:22b “…. Not one of you shall go out of his house until morning.”
- God instated family worship for Passover- Exod. 12:1-4
While we are lockdown at home we can knock heaven in prayers. Though nations and cities are on lockdown, heaven is open to release his blessing upon his people.
- A DIVINE DISTINCTION IN GOSHEN AND AT HOME
-Ogun to nja gbogbo ilu koni jawa
Exod 8:22-23
– Exod. 11:6-7 “Then you will know that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.
- A DIVINE COUNTDOWN
- 12:1-2; God gave instruction of what to do from day 1 to 14.
- ABSOLUTE SECURITY
- Psalm 91
- USHERING DIVINE DELIVERANCE
- The LORD will deliver us from afflictions and bondage.
- Exodus 14:13
- “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today, you will never see again.”
- USHERING A NEW BEGINNING
- Singing a new song – Exod. 15:1-2
- God will begin again in a new way – Isaiah 43: 19
