The Code of Conduct Tribunal dismisses all charges against the former Lagos State governor

The Code of Conduct Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, dismissed the charges brought before it against Action Congress Nigeria (ACN) leader, Bola Tinubu.

The former Lagos State Governor was on trial for allegedly operating foreign bank accounts between 1999 and 2007 during his tenure in office, and for false declaration of assets by not disclosing said accounts to the Code of Conduct Bureau.

The Code of Conduct Bureau may re-try the 15 former governors who entered into a plea bargain with the Federal Government after pleading guilty to allegations of financial malpractice while in office.

This indication emerged yesterday following a petition made to the Bureau by a coalition of non-governmental organisations, led by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), requesting to know the amount refunded to the FG by the governors.

Says the PDP should not be trying to benefit from the LCDAs after opposing their creation

Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for wanting to benefit from the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), the creation of which it opposed in 2003.

Tinubu said this during a town hall meeting with ACN supporters, yesterday in Ikorodu, Lagos, ahead of the Local Government elections in the State.

“When the PDP went to court against the LCDAs, their intention was to stop us. Now, the same party (PDP) wants to benefit from those councils.

Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, said on Monday that he was ready to face the Code of Conduct Bureau over allegations that he operated foreign bank accounts while in office.

Tinubu, who governed Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, stated this at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on his arrival from a foreign trip.

The Southwest Commissioner of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Ademola Adebo, has asked the Nigerian Attorney General, Bello Adoke, to explain to Nigerians how he got the record of the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu.

Adebo, while speaking in Lagos to journalists, decried how retributive politics has been the bane of functional governance in Nigeria. According to him, what has to be clarified is how the Attorney General got the case file.

The Nigeria Governors Forum organises a three-day induction course for members

Two ex- governors from the U.S. and other facilitators are to lecture newly elected governors in Nigeria at an induction course before their inauguration on May 29.

Asishana Okauru, the Director-General of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), disclosed the plan in Abuja on Monday.He said the three-day induction course, which would commence on May 18, would attract local and foreign facilitators.

He said the NGF secretariat had the full cooperation of all stakeholders, adding that facilitators for the induction had started arriving in the country.

Ultimately, what came out of yesterday's debate is that there is not much to choose between the candidates, and we still have a long way to go. However, and in my not-so-humble opinion, any one of these three candidates is a better choice than the current President.

To be up front, I am NOT going to be voting for any PDP candidate in the coming elections. I am of the opinion that their party has done a lot of damage to Nigeria in the last decade.
