The Deputy Speaker of the House of representatives, Yussuff Sulaimon Lasun, has called for the enabling environment for professionals to practice what they learn, declaring that Nigeria can only develop through the promotion of technology and skill acquisition.

He said that an enabling environment should be created for professionals and engineers to practice in the country rather than allowing foreigners to suppress local engineers.

The Deputy Speaker made this remark when the management of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors visited him on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, “our society can be developed through the promotion of skill acquisition and if professionals are allowed to practice what they learnt in the higher institution.

“It is saddening that since independence, we still have foreigners dominating the sector that could develop the nation’s technology”, adding that “I feel pained that our professionals are not being utilised maximally; technology is about trial, practice, failure and correction before success could be achieved”.
