South Africa: 572 Die From COVID-19 In 24-hours

South Africa Ministry of Health has revealed that the country recorded 572 coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in a single day.

South Africa’s Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, who made the announcement on his Twitter page on Wednesday.

According to Mkhize, the total number of COVID-19 fatalities was now 5,940.

He said: “Regrettably, we report 572 new COVID-19 related deaths. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 5,940.

“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased.

“The number of recoveries currently stand at 229, 195 which translates to a recovery rate of 58%.”

Naija News reports that South Africa has recorded a total of 394,948 COVID-19 infections.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, July 22 reported five hundred and forty-three confirmed new cases of Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.

According to the health agency in a report on its official website, 8 COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in Nigeria on Wednesday.

The development brings the overall COVID-19 related death in the country to 813, while 15815 people have been discharged of the dreaded virus.

As at the time this report is given, overall confirmed cases of the novel virus in Nigeria since its emergence is now 38344.
